We asked a bunch of our colleagues to state one reason why they joined this college and the answers varied between:

“I joined med school because i wanted to help sick people get better”

“I joined medicine because i watched too much ER/Scrubs on TV!”

“I wanted to be something big and make my family proud!”

“I wanted to become a doctor to save lives of the dying people in Africa”

“It was my parents’ wish and i didn’t want to to let them down”

“I got really high scores in Sanwia 3amma and i didn’t want to waste that, so i joined the faculty that took the highest grades!”

Dear colleague,

For only one minute,

Forget about your anatomy class tomorrow morning or the clinical pathology exam you just took in yesterday’s section.

Forget about your parents’ expectations from you to exceed the score you got in your mid-year exams.

Forget the practicals, finals and orals. Specifically the orals.

Forget about your classmates.

Forget about the whole entire campus of Kasr Alainy  and try to visualize with me a time when you thought of the brother of your best school friend who is “fel gam3a” as someone a hundred years older than you are….

A time when you thought you knew the world too well.

A time when you thought school, friends, TV & family were the world.

Back then, what did YOU want?!

I’ll tell you what almost everyone we asked this question agreed on, they didn’t want to be ignorant. They wanted to KNOW more.

Every single answer we got, it was about wanting to KNOW more.

Some wanted to know more about music.

Some wanted to know more people.

Some wanted to know more about how to be the best doctor in the whole world!

Some wanted to know how to be human.

Some wanted to know more about relationships.

Some wanted to learn how to cook.

Some wanted to know just for the sake of knowing.

Some wanted to know to help themselves. Some wanted to know to help others.

Some wanted to know in order to grow. Some in order to glow. And some in order to have the invincible power of knowledge.

“Elgam3a” was that stage of your life that you thought will never come because you’re still way too young and way too ignorant to ,for the 1st time ever,  get exposed to a fraction of what your folks referred to as “the real world”.

Supposedly, in college, you start KNOWING.

You start setting goals, making future plans, making life-long friendships, shaping a personality that you will live by for years to come.

Supposedly, in college, your real-life starts.

In such a demanding faculty, there isn’t much time for self-discovery and there isn’t much space for personal development and growth. It’s a college where you’re being told what you should do, what you should study, which doctors should you take lessons with, which chapters you should focus on and what chapters are of less importance, and on the level of human relations you’re even being told who you should be friends with and who you shouldn’t say hi to.

You have a monthly fully booked agenda and if there was any free time, you’d usually spend it sleeping.

Now you get to chose, whether you want to be just another face in the crowd or you’d like to stand out and shine.

Now it’s time to chose if you’ll be a dead fish swimming with the stream, or you’ve got what it takes to start this journey of self-discovery to unearth your nearly-buried potentials and talents .

SSS aims at preparing medical students to become active and contributing physicians of a global society. It encourages the development of a scientific approach, effective communication and leadership skills and cooperative abilities towards a young doctor that is both multitalented and productive.

In the SSS, you start knowing.

We offer a wide range of activities with a great variety of interests and goals. It also offers the possibility of constant improvements of original activities such as International Exchange, summer school, trainings, SSS Annual Conference, scientific campaigns and social activities, as well as the creation of new ones .

One of the main targets of SSS is to enhance the scientific thinking of medical students, which is a must to help them be productive in their medical career and be capable of achieving progress in the everlasting renewable medical knowledge.

SSS aims also to enhance the medical knowledge of the students through many non-traditional ways beside their studies as awareness projects, medical publications, etc.

In the SSS, your real life starts.

In med school, you’re potentially faced with a wasting disease, with a bad prognosis and of a long, painful course.
